UAW Local 5810 has a dynamic and participatory democratic structure in which union members vote on all major decisions including electing union officers and ratifying bargaining demands and contracts.

Elections are conducted by an Elections Committee that is elected from the membership. See below for announcements and results of union elections

Vacancy Election Notice (posted February 19. 2021)

We will be holding a vacancy election to fill the Postdoc Joint Council positions, as well as a vacant Executive Board position. If you are interested in running for a leadership role in the union, now is the right time! If you have questions about any of the positions, feel free to contact the current leadership on your campus or send an email to uaw5810@uaw5810.org. Remember: Together we are stronger!

Postdoc Positions

Executive Board Nominations
All UAW 5810 Postdoc unit members in continuous good standing for 1 year prior to accepting nominations are automatically nominated for the following statewide Executive Board position for a term expiring May 2021:

1 Vice President nominated and elected by the statewide membership

Joint Council Nominations
All UAW Local 5810 Postdoc unit members in continuous good standing for forty-five (45) days prior to accepting nominations are automatically nominated by campus unit membership for the following Joint Council/Head Steward positions for terms expiring May 2021:

Nomination Procedure for Executive Board and Joint Council
Members may accept nomination for no more than one Executive Board position and no more than one Joint Council position. Each member who wishes to accept nomination must indicate this intention by e-mailing to elections@uaw5810.org. In the written acceptance, specify the position(s) you are accepting nomination for and how you wish your name to appear on the ballot. Members accepting nomination may also submit a candidate statement (up to 500 words). Written acceptance and optional candidate statements must be received no later than March 1, 2021 at 5pm PST.

Election
The election will take place on March 15, 2021 and will be held via an online vote.

All members in good standing at the time of the election are eligible to vote. Write-in candidates are not permitted. If any position is uncontested, the candidate shall be considered elected and no election for that position will be held. All candidates for contested Executive Board and Joint Council positions must be elected by majority of valid ballots cast for that position. A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on March 22, 2021.
