Dear Postdoc,
As the union that represents postdocs at the UC, part of our work is advocating for issues that impact our members, and federal funding for science and research is among the most important. Increased funding could lead to more financial support for postdocs, more professor and research scientist positions, higher grant acceptance rates and more support for the innovations that move society forward.
We are currently in the process of scheduling meetings with members of Congress to formally request that they raise funding levels for science and research. Several months ago we launched a petition to illustrate our members’ support for increased funding. In our meetings, we hope to point to the number of people who have signed it as a metric of support.
Right now, almost 1,000 people have signed our petition – including over 600 just in the last two weeks – can you sign it today, so that we are in a strong position when we make the case for more funding?
The federal budget process is getting underway, and our meetings with members of Congress will ensure that our voices are heard when those decisions are being made. Please help us make the case for increased science and research funding by signing our petition today.
We are also circulating the petition on campus. If you are interested in signing in person or would like to help us circulate petitions, please reply to this email or get in touch with your campus representative.
Thanks for your time!
Sincerely, your friends and colleagues,
Xiaoqing Cao, President, UCLA
