Dear UC Postdocs,
This Friday, June 22nd, UAW 5810 will join a coalition of thousands of community partners and union members to offer our support to 45,000 employees of Verizon and Verizon Wireless who are fighting for a more equitable pay structure and a fair contract.
The coalition, led by the Communication Workers of America, is planning to distribute flyers outside Verizon stores across the country to protest the extreme inequity in Verizon’s pay structure. Verizon is a $100 billion company that makes tens of billion in profits – but it is demanding cuts in compensation from its workers. Verizon corporate board members are currently paid $230,000 a year – or three times the salary of a top, full-time Verizon worker with years of experience. June 22 marks a full year of negotiations but Verizon refuses to come to a fair agreement.
