The strength of our union is built upon a democratic foundation. Now that Academic Researchers (ARs) have joined UAW 5810, our Joint Council has approved a new elected leadership structure to ensure representation for Academic Researchers as well. Here are the changes:

  • Joint Council: the statewide Joint Council will be expanded to include AR representatives from each campus using the same calculation as for determining the numbers of Postdoc representatives.
  • Executive Board: the Executive Board will be expanded from 9 to 11 members, and will include 2 AR-specific positions (1 Trustee and 1 At-Large position) and 2 Postdoc-specific positions (1 Trustee and 1 At-Large position). The remaining 7 positions are open to all members.

We will be holding a vacancy election to fill the Postdoc Joint Council positions, as well as vacant Executive Board positions. If you are interested in running for a leadership role in the union, now is the right time! If you have questions about any of the positions, feel free to contact the current leadership on your campus or send an email to uaw5810@uaw5810.org. Remember: Together we are stronger!

All the available positions and nomination procedures for the vacancy election are explained below. You may also find this information on our website.

Convention Delegates
UAW 5810 is a local union within the UAW International union. Every four years there is a UAW Constitutional Convention where union members from different employment sectors come together, vote on policies and resolutions, and elect the UAW International officers. The last Constitutional Convention was held in June 2018, and we will be holding a vacancy election, should there be interim conventions. The vacancies are listed below. 1) To be eligible to serve as a delegate to a Convention, a member must have been in continuous good standing in the UAW for twelve (12) months and shall have been a member of Local 5810 for 3 months immediately preceding the first day of the month in which the convention is held. 2) Delegates must be able to be physically present at Convention meetings, which may require significant travel. For reference, the last conventions were in Detroit, MI and Kansas City, MO.
