The April 22nd March for Science marks a historic day of action for researchers at UC, and across the country. At our meeting this month, we will be talking about how we can maintain the momentum from the March, build solidarity within the scientific community, and engage the public to help push back against anti-science policies. Bring your creative ideas!
We will be serving light refreshments.
Access and affordability of housing is a concern for many, if not all of us. At this month’s membership meeting, we’ll explore the specific housing challenges UC Postdocs face, discuss what options exist at our campus, and talk about how the Postdoc Union can work to increase housing access.
Lunch will be provided!
What can scientists and researchers do to take action in this political moment?
Join us for an evening panel discussion of researchers followed by a forum and facilitated conversation on the current role of the science community in making political change. What action can we take to follow up on the March for Science, the proposed cuts to the NIH, and the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement?
At this week’s Campus Membership Meetings, we will be discussing Personal Time Off and the various kinds of leaves (Maternity, Parental, Personal, Medical, etc.) available to Postdocs, how to make use of those leaves when needed, as well as how paid sick days and holidays work under the contract.
We’ll also be talking about how our Union is fighting to save science funding in the 2018 budget as well as fair immigration policies, and our plans to meet with our Congress members on these issues.
Lunch will be provided.
