We will have an informational session about filing US tax forms. We invited two Tax Professionals from H&R Block who will cover basic taxes info and answer questions you might have.
Please RSVP here so we can get a count for the lunch order. Via the RSVP form, you can also submit questions related to taxes that we will send to the tax professionals ahead of the meeting.
At this meeting, we will also be voting for a representative to the elections committee. The UAW local 5810 elections committee consists of one elected representative from every campus. We will accept nominations at the meeting and hold an election if necessary.
Food will be provided!
After the latest shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida survivors have organized a nationwide day of action to call for action on gun control. In Los Angeles there will be a rally and march at Pershing Square in Downtown.

The UCSC STEM Postdoc Association, Academic Researchers United and the Postdoc Union would like to invite you to our Spring social! Come out for a happy hour drink (first beverage is on us!), play a game of pool, and meet new colleagues.
Feel free to let us know you’ll be there on the Facebook event page. You can also indicate there if you would need a ride from campus, or ask any question you may have. Or email us at email@example.com.
The benefits and protections important to Postdocs are under attack because of a series of court decisions and policy changes, among which is the billionaire-funded Janus v AFSCME case against public-sector unions. Please join your fellow Postdocs at this month’s membership meeting to discuss how we can fight to protect our right to stand together and advocate for ourselves and our profession.
Food will be provided!

UAW members from Nevada have asked for our help to campaign for Jacky Rosen for US Senate. She is currently a member of the House of Representatives on the Science, Space and Technology committee, and she is running to replace current Senator Dean Heller, a Republican who has largely voted with Trump. This race is critical to flipping the Senate!
Early voting in Nevada starts the weekend of October 20-21, so we’ll be doing on-the-ground canvassing to help get out the vote. We’ll be working in pairs and will be provided with training when we get to Nevada, so prior canvassing experience is not needed.
We will be coordinating bus transportation from Northern CA to Reno and from Southern CA to Las Vegas with fellow UAW members, and hotel rooms in Reno and Las Vegas will be provided. We will spend Saturday and Sunday campaigning, and then hop on the buses back to California on Sunday afternoon.
This is going to be an important and fun weekend! All Postdocs who want to join are welcome, along with family members, friends, etc. – the more the merrier! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, and RSVP here.
Please join us for our next Academic Researcher general meeting. We’ll discuss the results from our comprehensive bargaining survey and what improvements we want to see at UC. This conversation, and others like it across the state, will inform the drafting of our initial bargaining demands for our first union contract with UC.
Please join us for our first Academic Researcher general meeting of the new year! We’ll discuss existing recommendations to improve research in the U.S., including the 2018 NAS report: “The Next Generation of Biomedical and Behavioral Sciences Researchers: Breaking Through”. By understanding existing recommendations and reports, we can better craft bargaining proposals to support our careers and UC’s research mission.
All ARs are encourage to attend and lunch will be provided!
Join us for a very exciting meeting to discuss the initial set of demands that our union will submit to UC in advance of bargaining the first UC Academic Researcher union contract! These demands have been crafted based on the feedback from thousands of ARs via the comprehensive bargaining survey.
Lunch will be provided!
At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss the basics of filing Federal and State taxes, including issues affecting fellows and international scholars. We will also discuss how recent changes to the tax law will impact Postdocs. Your peers are also an excellent resource for tax questions and this will be a good opportunity to ask questions and share information.
