Drop by to have a cup of coffee and connect with fellow researchers, get answers to any questions you may have about rights and benefits, and discuss ways that we can further strengthen our research community!
We’ve made Berkeley a great place to be a Postdoc because we work together to advocate for ourselves and our research community, and that’s possible because Postdocs overwhelmingly choose to become members. If you aren’t a member of our union yet, click here!
Hope to see you there!

On October 13, Bay Area Postdocs will be canvassing for Proposition 10 and Jovanka Beckles for Assembly District 15. Proposition 10 supports affordable housing in California and Jovanka Beckles is a UAW endorsed candidate running for State Assembly in the district that spans from Richmond to North Oakland, including Berkeley. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, regardless of whether you are eligible to vote! Please RSVP here.
Join us for fall barbecue on Saturday, October 13th at Gabrielino Park. This is a great opportunity to share food, fun and conversation with fellow Postdocs, family and friends. Here are the details:
We will be joined by Academic Researchers (Project Scientists, Specialists and Researchers, many of whom used to be Postdocs) who are forming their own union, and it will be a great opportunity to create a stronger researcher community and network with each other.
Food will be provided. Drinks will be donation based and will help us to raise raise funds for our union’s Voluntary Community Action Program (V-CAP) to support pro-science, pro-labor candidates who will push back against the current administration’s attacks on science and international workers.
Please RSVP here to let us know if you are coming and if you are bringing any guests, so we know how much food we need, and feel free to bring a side dish to share!
Proposition 10 supports affordable housing in California. Meet up at 12pm. When you RSVP, we’ll email you back to coordinate where to meet. A brief training will be provided at the start.

Join us for our October Happy Hour! Stop by to have a drink and some finger food, socialize, and meet new Postdocs from UC Berkeley and LBL.
UAW members from Nevada have asked for our help to campaign for Jacky Rosen for US Senate. She is currently a member of the House of Representatives on the Science, Space and Technology committee, and she is running to replace current Senator Dean Heller, a Republican who has largely voted with Trump. This race is critical to flipping the Senate!
Early voting in Nevada starts the weekend of October 20-21, so we’ll be doing on-the-ground canvassing to help get out the vote. We’ll be working in pairs and will be provided with training when we get to Nevada, so prior canvassing experience is not needed.
We will be coordinating bus transportation from Northern CA to Reno and from Southern CA to Las Vegas with fellow UAW members, and hotel rooms in Reno and Las Vegas will be provided. We will spend Saturday and Sunday campaigning, and then hop on the buses back to California on Sunday afternoon.
This is going to be an important and fun weekend! All Postdocs who want to join are welcome, along with family members, friends, etc. – the more the merrier! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, and RSVP here.
