At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss the basics of filing Federal and State taxes, including issues affecting fellows and international scholars. Your peers are also an excellent resource for tax questions and this will be a good opportunity to ask questions and share information.
We will also be discussing what kinds of support we can ask UC to provide for Postdocs affected by the visa ban. Come and share your ideas!
Lunch will be provided!
Along with the UC Berkeley AstroJustice Group, the Postdoc Union presents a workshop with attorneys from immigration law firm Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, LLP. These attorneys have worked with the Postdoc Union for many years and are very familiar with the specific types of visa and immigration scenarios postdocs face. Attorneys will share crucial information and provide legal consultation for every international postdoc and researcher.
Please click here to RSVP.
Also, if you would like to hear about a specific visa or immigration issue, please let us know via the RSVP form.
Sincerely,
UCB and LBL Postdoc Union leadership:
Heather M. Harris, UCB Unit Chair
Abby Kroken, UCB Recording Secretary
Benjamin Smarr, UCB Head Steward
Balthazar Lechene, UCB Head Steward
Aman S. Gill, UCB Head Steward
Nils Zimmermann, LBL Unit Chair
Lydia Majure, Trustee
Carly Ebben-Eaton, Trustee
At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss how we can help build the upcoming March for Science in San Francisco on April 22. The March for Science is a national movement that is organizing actions and marches across the country on April 22 in support of science and scientists. Postdocs across the state have been getting involved, and we will discuss what we can do for our local march.
We will also talk about your rights to take political action, including your rights to attend marches and protests (including if you’re on a visa).
