Organizing The Future of Research with Academic Researchers United @ Stanley Hall, Room 177
May 31 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Future of Research promotes grassroots advocacy by researchers and collects data about academia and scientific training. In Gary’s talk, titled “What’s Next, for the Next Generation of Researchers?”, he will present results from the Next Generation Researchers Initiative, a Congressionally-mandated committee convened by the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine to examine how to create viable and sustainable career paths for early-career scientists. Postdocs and Academic Researchers from UC Berkeley and LBL will also speak about how they are taking collective action to make improvements.

Don’t miss this great opportunity for a conversation with Postdocs and Academic Researchers on many of the issues we’re facing regarding funding, research, and our careers. The event is open to all, so please help spread the word. There will be more information in weeks to come (including details on live streaming), but for now, save the date!

Canvassing in Nevada
Oct 20 – Oct 21 all-day

UAW members from Nevada have asked for our help to campaign for Jacky Rosen for US Senate. She is currently a member of the House of Representatives on the Science, Space and Technology committee, and she is running to replace current Senator Dean Heller, a Republican who has largely voted with Trump. This race is critical to flipping the Senate!

Early voting in Nevada starts the weekend of October 20-21, so we’ll be doing on-the-ground canvassing to help get out the vote. We’ll be working in pairs and will be provided with training when we get to Nevada, so prior canvassing experience is not needed.

We will be coordinating bus transportation from Northern CA to Reno and from Southern CA to Las Vegas with fellow UAW members, and hotel rooms in Reno and Las Vegas will be provided. We will spend Saturday and Sunday campaigning, and then hop on the buses back to California on Sunday afternoon.

This is going to be an important and fun weekend! All Postdocs who want to join are welcome, along with family members, friends, etc. – the more the merrier! Please email uaw5810@uaw5810.org if you have any questions, and RSVP here.
