Please join us for our first Academic Researcher general meeting of the new year! We’ll discuss existing recommendations to improve research in the U.S., including the 2018 NAS report: “The Next Generation of Biomedical and Behavioral Sciences Researchers: Breaking Through”. By understanding existing recommendations and reports, we can better craft bargaining proposals to support our careers and UC’s research mission.

All ARs are encourage to attend and lunch will be provided!

Davis Membership Meeting – Taxes for Postdocs @ Physics Building, Room 185

At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss the basics of filing Federal and State taxes, including issues affecting fellows and international scholars. We will also discuss how recent changes to the tax law will impact Postdocs. Your peers are also an excellent resource for tax questions and this will be a good opportunity to ask questions and share information.

Join us for a very exciting meeting to discuss the initial set of demands that our union will submit to UC in advance of bargaining the first UC Academic Researcher union contract! These demands have been crafted based on the feedback from thousands of ARs via the comprehensive bargaining survey.

Davis Membership Meeting – Postdoc Bargaining 2020 @ GBSF (The Genome and Bioscience Research Facility), Room 2202

With our current Postdoc union contract set to expire in just over a year, it’s time to start thinking about our next round of bargaining with UC. At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss the basics of bargaining, including what it means to collectively bargain and how the process works. Then we’ll generate ideas for what issues we should prioritize and how Postdocs can most effectively exercise our collective power to win a great contract in 2020!

At this month’s membership meeting we’ll discuss best practices for applications. And your colleagues are often the best resource for demystifying the process so we’ll also hear from Postdocs about their experiences with fellowship applications.
