Your Career Development Rights

The contract we have with UC offers important help for career and professional development. Click on the printable flier below to learn about some of these rights. This includes Article 9 of the contract which provides for an Individual Development Plan (IDP). An IDP provides a planning process to identify individual research goals, professional development and career objectives with supervisors. You can download the template and instructions below for creating your own IDP.

Grant Writing

On February 28th, 2014 UAW 5810 hosted a two-hour grant-writing workshop at UC Davis. Six successful and distinguished fellows shared what they found important in securing their own funding.

Career Development Panel

At our Annual Membership Meeting on 4/27/2013 the Union hosted Seema Tiwari-Woodruff Ph.D., Jessica Goodheart, Sheila Semaan Ph.D., and Jeremy Conkle Ph.D., to discuss their career paths. Careers in Academia, Industry, Government, and Advocacy are discussed along with helpful solutions to meet the challenges of getting jobs in these fields. Sonya Collier Ph.D., who is the Recording Secretary for UAW 5810, moderated. Watch the full discussion below:
