Dear UC Postdocs,

Over the next few months, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union will launch an unprecedented campaign supporting the workers of Walmart across the United States. The UAW nationally and our local are joining Walmart associates and community members nationwide in challenging Walmart to rebuild the economy and improve workers’ lives. The public campaign will officially launch on June 1st with a major direct action at Walmart’s shareholders meeting in Arkansas while simultaneously holding a series of big actions in 13 targeted cities along with echo actions nationally.

The echo actions will consist of adopting a Walmart store and having supporters distribute leaflets and ask workers and customers to sign a petition asking for the resignation of Walmart Chairman Rob Walton and CEO Mike Duke. Walton and Duke have been implicated in a widespread corruption and bribery scandal and an alleged cover-up.

On Friday, June 1 from 12:30 to 4:30, we’ll be at Walmart stores at these locations:

8400 Edgewater Drive, Oakland, CA 94621
151 E 5th St, Long Beach, CA 90802

Also, if they’re more convenient, other UAW members will be at these stores:
3460 El Camino Ave, Sacramento, CA from 11am-3pm
1400 Hilltop Mall Rd, Richmond, CA 94806 from 12:30-4:30pm
1827 Walnut Grove Ave, Rosemead, CA from 1pm-5pm
4101 Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90008 from 12:30-4:30pm

Please come join us! For more information see: http://makingchangeatwalmart.org/.

The UAW 5810 Executive Board
