On May 2-3, 2024, UAW academic workers at UC will elect officers to the Joint Council and Executive Board of our newly formed amalgamated union, UAW 4811. UAW members voted overwhelmingly last fall to merge UAW 2865 (Teaching Assistants, Tutors, Readers, and Student Researchers) and UAW 5810 (Postdocs and Academic Researchers) into a single union of 48,000 academic workers at UC. The triennial election this May will be the first time UAW members across all job titles vote together for the direction of our union at UC. Joint Council and Executive Board officers are elected for three-year terms. For more information on specific positions, please refer to our bylaws, Articles 6-15.
TIMELINE: Deadlines are strict.
- Nominations: April 8-15
- Election : May 2-3
- Run-off election (if necessary): May 13-14
QUALIFICATIONS
- For Executive Board positions: All UAW Local 4811 members in continuous good standing for 1 year prior to accepting nominations are automatically nominated for these positions.
- For Head Steward, Unit Chair, and Campus Recording Secretary: All UAW Local 4811 members in continuous good standing for forty-five (45) days prior to accepting nominations are automatically nominated for these positions.
- The Elections Committee will verify membership in good standing (payment of initiation fees and dues) and nominees’ required qualifications, per the UAW International Constitution.
- Concurrently held positions: Members may not hold more than one position on the Executive Board or Joint Council at a time.
