UAW Academic Workers West Coast Housing Justice Conference

Postdocs, ARs and other academic workers are overwhelmingly rent burdened: meaning we pay over 30% and often over 50% of our wages in rent. Together with other UAW local unions on the West Coast at UC, UW and CSU, we’re having a meeting to identify big ideas for fighting for affordable housing and to start to develop action plans. Together as tenants and union members we have an opportunity to do something unprecedented: pressure Universities and other major landlords in multiple cities with large academic worker populations through direct action. Please join us to get involved in this exciting new campaign!
UAW 5810 Social Justice Seminar Series: History of the UAW featuring UAW Archivist Gavin Strassel

Join the first seminar in a new series, hosted by the UAW 5810 Social Justice Working Group at UCLA. UAW Archivist Gavin Strassel will speak about the history of the union as it relates to labor organizing, advocating for social justice, and civil rights. The seminar series will continue in coming months on topics including racial justice, public safety, labor power, and rebuilding the social sphere.
