Yesterday, we presented UC’s bargaining team with an overview of our contract demands — check out the slides here! We stressed that our demands are about making Postdoc working conditions equitable for all and that we deserve rights and benefits commensurate with the essential work we do to make UC a world-class research institution.
UC passed us proposals on Management and Academic Rights, Layoff, Individual Development Plans & Progress Assessments, and Professional Development & Career Counseling. The full proposals can be found in our proposal tracker. TL;DR: They want to expand management rights and increase the reasons that a Postdoc can have their appointment ended via a layoff. We are proposing more job security; they are proposing less job security. This doesn’t seem very consistent with the bargaining goals UC sent out earlier this week. We did reach a tentative agreement on Holidays which includes Juneteenth (June 19) as a new paid holiday.
On Monday, August 2 from 1-3PM, we will hold our next bargaining session with UC. Your participation is always welcome and encouraged.

Please come to hear bargaining updates, push new issues, and deliberate on bargaining strategy. You can reply to this email if you would like to get oriented to the bargaining process.
