Big news: On Tuesday, the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) issued a complaint against UC regarding the Unfair Labor Practices that we filed in October and demanded a response from the university within 20 days. This means that the State of California agrees with us that UC has violated the law by refusing to bargain in good faith while making unilateral changes. PERB specifically cited UC’s attempts to impose an anti-bullying policy without bargaining and to impose visa fees at UCLA that are not allowed under our contract.

Despite receiving this complaint before yesterday’s bargaining session, UC’s team continued the same unlawful behavior called out by PERB.  UC passed anti-bullying provisions in a Respectful Work Environment “side letter” that would expire at an undetermined time and at the discretion of UC. We demand real anti-bullying protections that are meaningful and grievable, not temporary lip service and toothless investigations without any timelines. You can read all the proposals from our union and UC on our proposal tracker here.

Help win strong anti-bullying language. Share your story.
Have you experienced or witnessed bullying in academia? Share your story of how anti-bullying protections could have helped you. We will keep all responses confidential and will discuss with you about how your story will be used. Fill out this form and check the box if you are willing to share your story publicly.

We’ll be back for the final bargain session of 2021 on December 15.
