ICYMI: Recently in bargaining, UC’s team stated that they will be making a childcare subsidy proposal, which UC Postdocs have been fighting to win for many years. UC’s previous broken promises and inaction on this issue mean that we’ve got to ramp up the pressure to make sure they are true to their word this time. Can you click here to RSVP for the next mass membership meeting at your campus and help make childcare subsidies a reality for Postdoc parents?
Making childcare more affordable helps Postdocs take care of our families and focus on our research, and it will improve gender equity at UC—and we can’t wait any longer. It’s why people like Dr. Charlotte Lorenz are speaking out. Until recently, Charlotte was a Postdoc in Neurobiology at UC San Diego. During that time, she had to spend ALL of her pay on childcare. And she is not alone. Our own survey found that 86% of UC Postdocs with children have child care costs that exceed the affordability limit set by the federal government.
Want to help get our childcare demand over the finish line? Sign up here to join your campus’s upcoming membership meeting, which is happening in the next month. We’ll be discussing how we can hold UC to its word and ensure they finally deliver on our demand to make childcare more affordable.
