Postdocs and Research Scientists/Engineers at University of Washington — our union siblings at UAW 4121– are fighting for contracts and are on strike as of this morning! Please click the button below to contribute to their strike support fund!

UW Postdocs and Research Scientists/Engineers are demanding that the University of Washington bargain in good faith and reach agreements on issues including fair compensation, and the same harassment prevention protections for RSEs that are already available for Postdocs and Academic Student Employees at UW and here at UC. These workers had our back during our strike and it’s critical to the strength of the higher ed worker movement that we support them now. Please click here to contribute to their strike fund!
Misclassified Math Postdocs vote to join UAW 5810
A supermajority of Math Postdocs that UC misclassified into other titles (Visiting Assistant Professor and Assistant Adjunct Professor) — to deny them a union — have signed cards to join 5810. As they have done before, UC is trying to deny these workers a right to a union by (falsely) claiming that they lack a “community of interest” with other Math Postdocs. Last week, the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) reviewed the union petition and issued a Show Cause order, demanding that UC provide evidence within 30 days as to why they believe Math VAPs should be excluded from the Postdoc bargaining unit. This is an important fight to make sure all Postdocs at UC are part of our union!4,800 NIH early-career researchers file to form a union and join UAW
More good news! 4,800 Postdocs and other early-career researchers at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD have attained supermajority support to form a union and join UAW, and have filed cards for a union election. They rallied on Thursday ahead of submitting the cards to the US federal labor relations authority. This is a tremendously exciting development for our NIH colleagues and for our broader movement of Academic Workers fighting for fair and equitable working conditions and a research environment where all workers can thrive.
NIH researchers celebrate filing for their union.
