Overpayment Notices Guidance
Over the past few weeks UC has continued to send “overpayment notices” to UAW 2865 and 5810 members. While employers do have the right to reclaim money paid for struck work, UC must give you an opportunity to correct any errors and provide you with options for repayment. They do not have the right to deduct amounts from your paycheck without your explicit consent. Please review the Overpayment FAQ here for further guidance.

Enrollment in Strike Assistance
Because UAW members collectively choose to pool our resources together through dues, members could sign up for $400 per week through the Strike Assistance Program during our 2022 strike. Academic Researchers and Postdocs who signed up for Strike Assistance and were on strike for the full four weeks should have received $2400 in Strike Assistance payments. If you have received an overpayment notice, but did not enroll in the Strike Assistance Program or did not receive any strike assistance payments, please fill out this form. Our union’s Executive Boards have submitted a formal request to UAW Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock to re-open strike assistance enrollment for any eligible worker who did not receive strike assistance during the strike.

Hardship Fund Reopened
UC’s overpayment notices have put a financial burden on many academic workers, and our union has reopened the strike hardship fund to soften the blow. This fund is for academic workers facing acute hardship due to docked pay including, but not limited to, costs for medical care, childcare, food, and/or other emergency situations impacted by strike-related lost pay.
